The success of “farmers as water managers” includes a proper funding system that improves the financial and environmental conditions and maintains water management under changing climatic conditions.
In the Aquarius network group ‘financial methods’ it was agreed that European grants are important for financing “farmers as water managers”. But other financial methods are also required to give farmers increased opportunities to act as water managers. Methods that are beneficial for farmers and also help water authorities to implement European Directives and that cope with the consequences of climate change.
